One reason is the presence of the Rocky Mountains, which block cold air from moving westward, allowing warmer air to dominate the region. Additionally, the western states are closer to the Pacific Ocean, which can bring in warmer air and moderate temperatures. The eastern United States, on the other hand, is more influenced by cold air masses from the north and northeast, leading to cooler temperatures. Overall, the combination of topography and proximity to oceanic influences contributes to the temperature differences between the two regions. **
